About PAAL

27 Years of Preparing People for Independence

Since 1997, PAAL has been a trusted partner for individuals with autism, their families, and the school districts that serve them. Here's the story of how we got here — and what drives us forward.

Mission for Educating Citizens with Autism (MECA) supports individuals with autism in developing the skills necessary for independence, community participation, and meaningful adult lives.

Our Mission

A Community Built Around One Purpose

PAAL is a program of the Mission for Educating Citizens with Autism (MECA), a nonprofit founded by volunteers who saw a gap in specialized education and decided to fill it themselves.

Today, we serve individuals from adolescence through adulthood — with four distinct programs, a team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts, and a deep commitment to the communities of Chester County, Pennsylvania.

The PAAL Approach

We believe the community is the best classroom. Five principles define everything we do.

01

Community Is the Classroom

Real learning happens in real places. Our students practice skills at workplaces, stores, and community spaces — not just in a classroom.

02

Clinical Oversight by Certified Behavior Analysts

Every program is supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who design and monitor individualized plans with scientific rigor.

03

Focus on Post-21 Independence

Everything we teach is chosen because it matters in adult life — employment, housing, relationships, and community participation after school ends.

04

Employment Training from Day One

Work-readiness isn't a graduation step — it's woven into our programs from the beginning. Students build vocational skills alongside communication and independence goals.

05

Individualized Behavioral Programming

No two students have the same program. Personalized learning plans built around each individual's strengths, goals, and path to independence.

06

Collaborative Family Partnerships

Parents and guardians are not observers — they're active partners. We keep families informed, included, and empowered throughout every step.

National & State Partnerships

PAAL is proud to be a member of organizations advancing high-quality services, advocacy, and standards of care for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities.
